Our Mission

We are a community of mental health professionals dedicated to the compassionate and ethical conduct of clinical trials of investigational pharmaceuticals for persons with mental illness.

As an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) company, Community Clinical Research is dedicated to the success and quality of our work. Our principal investigator, David Brown, M.D., is a board-certified psychiatrist who completed a fellowship in Biological Psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health and has over 20 years of experience in conducting phase I-IV clinical trials.

Our Community Liaison team collectively establishes and maintains relationships within the greater Austin, Central Texas, and Dallas metroplex communities with several mental health facilities and organizations. They not only oversee recruitment for our clinical trials and assess the appropriateness of a given research study for an individual participant, but also connect study participants to health care providers and resources within their communities.

Our Clinical Research Coordinators maintain patient safety and data integrity while successfully executing our clinical trials. Our coordinators have among them decades of mental health experience and have worked with various patient populations. Our Clinical Research Coordinators pride themselves on their compassion for our clinical trial subjects, quality data collection, and maintenance of sponsor, CRO, and sponsor relationships. Our Coordinators also assist in maintaining an efficient work environment and reinforce effective communication among the various departments within our company.

Our inpatient clinical staff consists of several Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, and Patient Care Technicians, who bring with them compassion, commitment, and a wealth of varied experience in providing care, comfort, and safety to the mentally ill. Our inpatient unit is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to ensure safety and extensive oversight of our inpatient clinical trials.

Our Laboratory Research Team specializes in precise data collection and ensures successful collection of laboratory data during the execution of our clinical trials. They ensure safe and accurate measurements, specimen collection, and other laboratory assessments for a variety of protocols. Our laboratory staff works closely with study subjects, the impatient unit staff, recruitment specialists, coordinators, and investigators to collect quality data.

Each year, we successfully enroll and complete phase I-IV outpatient and inpatient clinical trials. Our facility has twenty beds, a day room with a pool table, a television, and other recreational amenities, as well as a quiet room. Those participating in an inpatient trial have access to comforting and comfortable grounds outside the building. Inpatients may participate, as appropriate, in group activities including games, gardening, day-trips, movie nights, among many other activities. Inpatient staff members undergo rigorous training and focus solely on the study participants' safety and well-being. We do not use a study participant's health insurance benefits nor do we contact any insurance companies.

All study participants receive, at no cost, extensive initial psychiatric evaluations and carefully planned and monitored follow-up visits. All study participants also receive compensation for their participation. Whether study participants complete a study or leave a protocol early, we offer appropriate attention and medical intervention so that each ends their study participation as stable as their medical condition permits. Following participation in a study, Dr. Brown continues to treat all patients to ensure an appropriate transition to, if the patient wishes, care with other mental health providers. Community Clinical Research attempts, whenever possible, to participate in long-term extension studies that may provide individuals with continued access to a given study medication. We want to give to study participants their larger communities a thoughtful and hopeful alternative.
