About Dr. Brown

David Brown, MD, specializes in clinical trials for investigational mental illness medicines and has participated in over 250 trials for conditions like depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. As the principal investigator at Community Clinical Research in Austin, Texas, Dr. Brown provides diagnostic and cognitive care and rates the efficiency of clinical trials regarding mental illness. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is board-eligible with the American Medical Electroencephalographic Association.

Prior to his clinical psychiatry work, Dr. Brown was the medical director for Cross Creek Hospital in Austin while maintaining his own private psychiatry practice. Dr. Brown has authored or co-authored numerous published articles on mental illness, presenting his work at medical conferences, on local news stations, and at public seminars around the country. He also is an associate professor at the University of Texas Department of Psychology in Austin and has worked as a contracted consultant with multiple research organizations.

Dr. Brown graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in biology from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and went on to complete his residency in psychiatry there. Dr. Brown also underwent fellowship training in biological psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

An active member of the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, Dr. Brown also retains memberships with the Schizophrenia International Research Society, the American Psychiatric Association, the Texas Medical Association, and the Travis County Medical Association. He has earned several awards throughout his career, including the Texas Super Doctor award from Texas Monthly Magazine.

As part of his diagnostic experience, Dr. Brown is skilled in using the latest technologies, including EEG and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), to measure brain activity. He offers comprehensive psychiatric assessments for a variety of conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. He conducts clinical trials for medications and offers alternative treatment options to better manage such conditions.

In his free time, Dr. Brown enjoys his volunteer work with the Boy Scouts as a Troop Master. He has also spent time as a children’s Sunday school teacher. Dr. Brown is fluent in both English and Spanish.
